Adventure in Ancient Greece: Philosophical Tour for Families and Children
Where culture and democracy were born.
Where Socrates, Plato and Aristotle taught.
Where the ancient Athenians took their decisions.
The program aims to engage children in a pleasant and interactive way in the basic principles of ancient Greek philosophy. The program starts at School Life and Education Museum in Plaka neighbourhood. The Museum is situated in the oldest street of Athens, at Tripodon Street, the road where the ancient Greek philosophers used to walk and debate for long. In the beginning, an introductory 45-minute presentation will take place in which children through theater games and interactive activities will become familiar with the very basic concept of philosophy.
Then the program will evolve into a walking exploration. By using the map and solving elaborative puzzles and riddles, we will experience an adventure that eventually will uncover the principles of ancient Greek philosophy. We will explore Philopappou Hill, the Pnyx, the Areios Pagos (Areopagus) and the Theater of Dionysus at the Acropolis and we will become ourselves ancient Greek philosophers!
At the end we will take part in philosophical debates simulating the meeting of the principal assembly of the democracy of ancient Athens. The last task will be to revive the Socrates trial and decide whether he is innocent or guilty!
